ELIXIRxPuglia

Cofunded by European Union under FESR-FSE+ 2021–2027 Programme

The project “ELIXIRxPuglia” is cofunded by the European Union under the PR Puglia FESR-FSE+ 2021–2027 Programme, Priority I “Competitiveness and Innovation”, Action 1.6 “Qualification of research infrastructures of the regional system”.

The initiative aims to strengthen and enhance the Italian participation in ELIXIR (European Life-science Infrastructure for Biological Information) through the empowerment of a regional hub of excellence dedicated to omics data generation, biological data management, bioinformatics analysis  and other advanced digital services for life sciences. The project is leaded by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) in collaboration with the University of Bari Aldo Moro, to consolidate the role of the Apulia region within the national and European ELIXIR ecosystem.

The funding obtained for the implementation of the operation amounts to €1,499,926.

The project is designed to:

  • strengthen the scientific, technological and operational capacity of ELIXIR-IT in Apulia;
  • upgrade computational and storage infrastructures to support large-scale omics data analysis, artificial intelligence approaches and complex bioinformatics workflows;
  • enhance the OMICS platform through advanced technologies for multidimensional omics analyses;
  • promote the adoption of FAIR principles — Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable — for biological data and related metadata;
  • support Open Science, data interoperability and long-term preservation of scientific datasets;
  • foster training, dissemination, technology transfer and collaboration between research institutions, public bodies and private organisations.

By reinforcing the ELIXIR-IT technological hub in Apulia, ELIXIRxPuglia contributes to the development of an open, interoperable and sustainable digital infrastructure for life sciences, in line with national and European strategies for research infrastructures, innovation, data sharing and Open Science.
