Research Data Management
About the Community
The Research Data Management Community (RDM) brings together RDM experts to develop ELIXIR’s vision and coordinate its activities in order to take advantage of the available RDM assets. It aims to coordinate RDM best practices and provide an overview of how to use the existing ELIXIR RDM services, in close collaboration with ELIXIR Platforms, Communities and Focus Groups.
The activities of the RDM Community focus on four areas:
- Networking RDM professionals;
- Managing RDM knowledge and know-how;
- Managing RDM training resources and expertise;
- Coordinating with external stakeholders.
Contribution of ELIXIR Italy
ELIXIR-IT is actively participating in the expansion of the RDM knowledge through several initiatives:
- Data Steward Handbook: A practical guide called the "Data Steward Handbook" has been developed to equip data stewards with the knowledge and tools they need to implement good data management practices within their institutions. This handbook fosters knowledge sharing and helps improve data management overall.
- RDM Maturity Model: ELIXIR-IT is creating a framework, called an "RDM maturity model," to help data stewards assess the current state of their data management practices. This model provides a roadmap for institutions and ELIXIR Nodes to enhance their RDM services and infrastructure.
- Promoting Recommended Tools: The use of recommended ELIXIR RDM tools has been encouraged within the Italian research community. These tools, such as RDMkit, DSW (Data Stewardship Wizard), and FAIR Cookbook, provide valuable resources for effective data management. ELIXIR-IT further supports this by participating in the Data Stewards Community, a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration.
