About the Community
The ELIXIR Microbial Biotechnology Community is on a mission to empower researchers in the exciting field of microbial metabolic engineering. This is achieved by:
- Refining Advanced Models: The community focuses on refining and implementing conceptual models like "Design-Build-Test-Learn." These models guide the development of tailor-made microbes for various applications, including: bioproduction of innovative compounds (e.g., new medicines), bioconversion of renewable resources (e.g., turning waste into fuel) bioprocessing of harmful molecules (e.g., removing pollutants).
- Enhancing Training and Collaboration: ELIXIR-Microbial Biotechnology plays a key role in coordinating European training activities related to microbial biotechnology. This ensures researchers have access to high-quality training and fosters collaboration across the continent.
Contribution of ELIXIR Italy
ELIXIR-IT fosters collaboration between research teams with diverse expertise (multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary). The main goals are to:
- Spark Innovative Proposals: ELIXIR-IT encourages the development of research proposals focused on cutting-edge microbial biotechnologies.
- Promote Resource Sharing: ELIXIR-IT facilitates the sharing of essential resources for research, including: Microbial strains and samples; Research data and metadata; Laboratory facilities; Scientific knowledge.
