About the Community

The ELIXIR Galaxy Community aims to enhance accessibility to bioinformatics tools and resources through the Galaxy workflow manager.

Galaxy is an open, web-based platform for data-intensive computational research that allows researchers to run analysis workflows on their data even without programming experience, share their results, and enable others to repeat the same analyses. Galaxy makes science reproducible, facilitates the sharing of data and results, and relieves users of the burden of installing and managing software tools.

Key activities of the Galaxy Community include:

  • Foster the use and development of Galaxy by making it easier to import and analyse data, develop workflows, and share tools..
  • Provide Galaxy training.
  • Expand the European and global network of Galaxy resources and communities.
  • Support interactions between domain-specific Galaxy communities to establish common analysis workflows and standards.

Contribution of ELIXIR Italy

The Italian community works towards making Galaxy available to the Italian and wider community in various forms:

  • General-purpose or domain-specific public Galaxy instances. In the context of the EuroScienceGateway project, the Galaxy Community is developing usegalaxy.it, the national Galaxy public server.
  • Private galaxy instances through Laniakea, which is a cloud platform designed to deliver scientific services, such as Galaxy, on a flexible, on-demand basis
