Federated Human Data
About the Community
The ELIXIR Federated Human Data (FHD) Community is building a secure and interconnected network of services facilitating access to population-scale genomic and biomolecular data. This network empowers research and improves healthcare outcomes across Europe by enabling the secure submission, storage, distribution, and analysis of sensitive human data.
Key activities of the FHD Community include:
- Develop a federated infrastructure: This infrastructure will allow researchers and other stakeholders to access and share human genomic data while ensuring data privacy and security.
- Coordinate with ELIXIR Nodes and EU-funded projects: The FHD Community collaborates with national ELIXIR Nodes and other European initiatives to develop and implement this infrastructure.
- Create interoperable services: The community focuses to develop a set of interoperable services supporting the federated infrastructure.
Overall, the FHD Community is driving innovation in responsible human data sharing, which will ultimately benefit medical research and improve healthcare for European citizens.
Key projects include:
Contribution of ELIXIR Italy
ELIXIR-IT promotes ethical practices for storing, sharing, and processing human data. It aligns with ELIXIR guidelines and the requirements of national stakeholders.
Key roles of ELIXIR-IT FHD:
- Develop an Italian Genomic data infrastructure: ELIXIR-IT FHD establishes the Italian infrastructure for managing human data, acting as the primary access point for Italian researchers and institutions.
- Connect Italy to 1+MG initiative: It acts as the bridge between Italian stakeholders and the 1+MG EU initiative for genomic data management.
- Contribute to EU-funded projects: ELIXIR-IT FHD actively participates in relevant EU projects, including: B1MG: Testing and validating tools for processing human data; GDI: Deploying a national infrastructure specifically tailored for human genomic data; GoE: Creating a reference genome specific to the Italian population.
