Università Sapienza Roma

Founded in 1303, Sapienza is the oldest university in Rome and the largest in Europe. Its mission is to contribute to the development of a knowledge society through research, excellence, quality education and international cooperation.

Sapienza is organized into 11 faculties, one School for Advanced Studies, one post-degree School of Aerospace Engineering, 58 departments, as well as numerous research and service centres. Sapienza currently offers over 290 degree programmes (Bachelor’s and Master’s) – among which over 60 are taught in English – 200 Advanced Professional Courses, over 80 PhDs and 80 specialisation schools.

Among the about 120.000 enrolled students, over 30.000 come from other Italian cities, nearly 10,000 are international students and over 4,000 students a year take part in international mobility programmes.

Bioinformatics is actively taught. Among the courses, a three-year bachelor course in Bioinformatics (in English) and an Advanced training course in Bioinformatics are offered. Several Bachelor and Master programmes include at least one Bioinformatics or Computational biology course. Many PhD programmes provides opportunities for bioinformatics research projects.

Scientific research activity at Sapienza covers an extremely broad spectrum of disciplines in many areas. Within the discipline range, many researchers from various departments belonging to the areas of Medicine, Science, Medicinal chemistry, Informatics, Statistics, Engineering are currently carrying out research in the field of bioinformatics.
