About the Community
The Plant Sciences Community is an interdisciplinary group that aims to develop an infrastructure supporting the integration of plant-related data types.
Key activities of the Plant Sciences Community include:
- Developing data standards;
- Collecting data;
- Integrating data.
Contribution of ELIXIR Italy
ELIXIR-IT is a strong supporter for improving data quality and accessibility in plant research. This is achieved by:
- Shaping the Future of Phenotype Data: ELIXIR-IT actively contributes to the development of the MIAPPE (Minimum Information for Plant Phenotype Experiment) standard. This standard ensures that plant phenotyping experiments are documented consistently, making data from different studies comparable and reusable;
- Facilitating Plant Breeding: ELIXIR-IT plays a key role in developing the BrAPI (Breeding API) interface. This standardised interface allows researchers to easily access and exchange plant breeding data across different platforms, accelerating progress in crop improvement;
- Powering FAIR Agronomic Research Data: ELIXIR-IT maintains a BrAPI endpoint for the FAIDARE (FAIR Data-finder for Agronomic Research) federated database. This allows researchers to discover and access valuable plant research data from various sources, promoting data sharing and collaboration within the agronomic research community.
