About the Community
The ELIXIR Microbiome Community aims to:
- Promote the consolidation of gold standards for the analysis and management of data derived from the metagenomic sequencing of microbiomes;
- Address gaps in training, methods, and reference databases;
- Enhance and expand bioinformatics infrastructures and resources to effectively support microbiome research across different biomes.
Key activities of the Microbiome Community are:
- Develop innovative solutions for data traceability, harmonisation, and bioinformatics methods;
- Promote the use of controlled vocabularies and data formats;
- Offer training systems to enable the reuse of data, metadata and bioinformatics methods;
- Integrate resources that adhere to FAIR principles analysis.
Contribution of ELIXIR Italy
ELIXIR-IT plays a vital role in advancing microbiome research by developing and integrating bioinformatics resources that follow FAIR principles, for taxonomic and functional analysis, through target-oriented and shotgun metagenomics approaches.
